ussian Militants Kill 300 In 2011

Russian Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev said Gumarovich, Russian forces have killed around 300 militants in the North Caucasus region in 2011.

A report was read by a Russian military officer General Nikolai Rogozhkin. He said, as many as 300 militants eliminated in Russia, 366 militant hideouts were also destroyed. Russia also seized 1400 weapons fire along with 17 thousand of ammunition and 500 kilograms of explosives. Thus as reported by Xinhua on Saturday (12/03/2011).

The Russian militants often launch attacks on officials and law enforcement officials in Russia's North Caucasus region such as Chechnya, Dagestan, and Ingushetia.

North Caucasus region is a region that lies between the Black Sea and Caspian Sea. The area is also frequently hit by separatist insurgency and militant activity.

According to the newspaper, the rebels in the Caucasus region seeks to liberate itself from the Russian Federation. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called this rebellion as the most serious threat in Russia.

Rebels in Dagestan is also responsible for the bombing incidents in the City of Moscow's Domodedovo Airport that killed 37 people in January.
