Suicide bomb kills 6 at Afghan airport

Back suicide bombings in Afghanistan today. The bombing occurred at the international airport of Kandahar, southern Afghanistan and killed six people.

"Six civilians killed in suicide bomb attack near the gates of the Kandahar airport today," said the Kandahar police chief Gen. Abdul Razeq told AFP on Thursday (1/19/2012).

Taliban militants claimed responsibility in this latest incident. "Our goal is bullet proof vehicles owned by foreign coalition forces," said Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi.

Army Commander General of the South of Afghanistan Hamid previous Wardak said three civilians were killed in this attack. But the number was then rectified to six.

While a spokesman for coalition forces the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) said there were no foreign troops who became casualties in this incident. While the suicide bomb attack was known to have come from a vehicle driven by the bomber.

Somehow the continuation of peace talks between the Taliban and the Government of Afghanistan after the attacks. NATO commander Gen. John Allen said the attack showed that Taliban leader Mullah Omar had lost control of his troops.
